“What is my life’s calling?”, Why am I here?” I’m sure these are questions you have had before. I know they have been on my mind from time to time. These deeper, ‘big’ questions usually help us discover the innate workings of our mind and soul. Here’s how you can unearth the answer to some of these questions, and connect better with your inner self and spiritual goals.

Embrace Silence and Solitude

Silence is a rare commodity in our hectic lives. However, it’s only through times of stillness that we can truly hear what is going on for us inside. I remember once hiking alone in a thick woodland, sensing the beautiful feeling of peace existing between the trees. In that silence, a new thought sprang up: “Help others find their spiritual path.” That moment changed things forever, and helped me form what I now like to call my spiritual calling. Have you ever had a similar feeling? What is your inner self trying to tell you?

Meditate Consistently

Meditating regularly is important for connecting with your true self. When have you dedicated time to practice meditation? How can you start to practice today? Beginning with just a few minutes each day, and learning techniques such as deep breathing, can instantly help you feel a sense of inner stillness and lasting tranquility.

During a particular meditation session, I imagined myself writing. It felt very real, and I could see myself putting my ideas down on paper and letting my imagination run wild. This one vision became a power that fueled my desire to write and publish here. Are there any thoughts and ideas you’ve had when you’ve meditated? How can you use these to shape various parts of your life?

Seek Guidance From Spiritual Texts

I’m sure you, like me, have read something that has metaphorically, spoken to you. It could be a traditional sacred text or any book that makes you feel inspired, or brings a sense of serenity and insight to your life.

After reading a particular spiritual book, I came across some words about serving others selflessly. Those delicate words were gently nudging me toward activities that brought more joy and purpose to my life. Have you ever grown from reading a spiritual text? What has inspired and motivated you?

Engage With Your Community

Finding your purpose can also be discovered by connecting with your community. Are there people out there that inspire you? Are there journeys you would like to go on? Participate in spiritual communities, attend talks and workshops, and have deep and meaningful conversations with others. It’s in these interactions that specific realizations can be sparked. Where can you find others you can genuinely connect with?

Reflect and Journal

Have you ever considered using a journal to write down your thoughts and feelings? Writing is truly an amazing way to reveal what is going on inside. Are there some themes that reoccur when you write? What do you notice? These discoveries could help you shape your direction, and reason for pursuing certain activities. What could you uncover by committing to journaling each day? How can writing and reflecting help you grow?

Nurturing Your Purpose and Presence

Discovering the ‘why’ in life through spirituality is definitely within reach. It’s something that takes time and changes your perspective for the better. Remember to listen to your heart and truly embrace those small, delicate moments of peace. Trust that the process and your inner being will guide you to where you want to go. How can you begin your spiritual journey today? Where will taking this path lead you? I wish you good luck on your journey.
